Chemical examination / Area 04

Adhesives, sealants and construction chemicals

Examination of adhesive and sealant composition, joint condition, signs of curing and chemical changes within the agreed assignment.

Possible questions

  • Do the material characteristics examined meet the requirements supplied?
  • Which differences were identified between the disputed material and the comparison sample?
  • Which data are needed to check causes of impaired curing or joint failure?

What to prepare for consideration

  • Material documents and batch number.
  • Photographs of the joint, substrate and packaging.
  • Information about proportions, mixing, temperature and holding time.

The result under discussion

A written document describing source data, work performed, results obtained and answers to the agreed questions. Appendices and document format are determined by the assignment.

Price and programme

from RUB 60,000

An indicative price for basic expert work. Laboratory tests, sampling and sample delivery are priced separately. The full estimate, specialists, timing and permissible consumption of the object are agreed before work begins.

Information that helps check the cause of a change in a joint

Joint failure, a tacky surface or colour change may appear after application, holding, loading or subsequent treatment. Checking requires an event sequence: material receipt, package opening, substrate preparation, application, entry into service and discovery of the change. Each stage's timing is linked to surviving photographs, work logs or correspondence.

Describe separately the material in its container, the applied layer and the joint itself. Comparing a container remnant with a joint area addresses a different question from checking two unopened packages. If both sound and altered areas survive, identify their positions, operating conditions and substrate differences. They should not be treated as comparable merely because they look alike.

What to include in the description

  • Material name, batch, storage duration and conditions after opening.
  • Substrate material and information about cleaning, priming and previous coatings.
  • Recorded application and holding conditions, actual loading and contact with water, cleaners or other substances.
  • The first changed area, its development and repairs already carried out.

A chemical difference still needs its connection to failure explained. Frame composition, material condition and joint strength questions separately so the results supporting each answer are clear. Do not repeat mixing or destroy a surviving joint to test an explanation before the examination is agreed.
