Chemical examination / Preparing materials

Preserve the object. Prepare the data.

Preliminary consideration starts with a description and documents. Physical sample transfer conditions are determined separately.

For the first enquiry

  • A description of the situation and what needs to be established.
  • Material name, purpose and batch information.
  • Photographs of the overall object, labelling, packaging and changed areas.
  • Quality certificate, specification, application instructions and available test reports.
  • Information about surviving samples and their storage.

Before transferring a physical sample

First agree the object and examination programme. Sampling, quantity, container, delivery, permissible consumption, storage and return of remnants are then determined. Samples should not be dispatched without that agreement.

If a review is needed

  • The complete report with all appendices.
  • The document setting out questions or the assignment.
  • Laboratory test reports and sample information if available.
  • A list of findings to be checked.
